Amid Chakir

Amid Chakir studied at the Brussels Conservatoire and then at INSAS, graduating in 1979. In 1973, he played in Tom Stoppart's Les Acrobates at the Rideau de Bruxelles. He developed a career on stage and in film, teaching at INSAS from 1991 onwards. In the cinema, he has acted under the direction of Chantal Akerman (Hôtel des Acacias), Marc Didden (Brussels by Night, 1983; Istanbul, 1984) Dominique Deruddere (Crazy Love, 1987), Kamal Dehan (Les Suspects, 2003) and made various short films and TV movies. He is also heavily involved in the socio-cultural and voluntary sectors, and for nine years directed theatrical activities for the Regroupement démocratique marocain, set up Théâtre Brut with young people from the second generation of immigrants (Tamara, un conte suspect, 1983; Ankabout, based on Shakespeare, 1986), and directed various courses (Studio Parallax, immigrant associations, La Nuit des contes at the Beursschouwburg in 1995). More specifically with Théâtre Océan Nord, he and Isabelle Pousseur have run a theatre workshop for teenagers on several occasions since 1997.
