Ahmed Oubari

Ahmed Oubari's life story is marked by his activism and subsequent exile from Morocco. Born in 1941 in southern Morocco, Oubari grew up in Casablanca. His interest in student protests in the politically tense 1960s led to him being expelled from school after facing repression from the authorities. Advised by friends from political organisations such as the National Union of Moroccan Students (UNEM), he continued his studies in Syria, where he continued his activism, organising Moroccan students and contributing to political movements. He then moved to Belgium, where he became involved in Arab communities, trade unions and political groups. Despite racism and challenges in the workplace, Oubari continued his studies and professional development, eventually working as a social worker and journalist. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Oubari remained committed to political activism, advocating for human rights, democracy and freedom of expression. He used various platforms, such as his radio programme Sawt El Muhajir, to amplify his message and engage the Moroccan diaspora.
