Born in Oran, Algeria, into a Moroccan family, Fatiha Saidi studied pedagogy. Settled in Belgium since childhood, she became involved in the associative world from a young age, notably leading the free radio Radio El Wafa and working with associations helping disadvantaged youth and women. Her journalism career continued in 1996 at the periodical Nouvelle Tribune, where she promoted intercultural coexistence. Elected as a member of the Brussels Parliament in 1999, she served for 11 years before taking on various other political roles, including as a senator from 2010 to 2014. Her municipal mandate in the commune of Evere from 2006 to 2018 gave her responsibilities in areas such as urban planning, sustainable development, and equal opportunities. Her political action focuses on access to fundamental rights, health, combating human trafficking, and gender equality. Sensitively attuned to vulnerable populations, she particularly advocates for the rights of the homeless and foreign-born individuals. As a leftist politician, she has worked to promote solidarity and equal rights for women. She is also the author of several works, including "Les fourmis prédatrices ou itinéraire d’un Marocain expulsé d’Algérie" co-written with Mohamed Moulay (2017), "Par les liens forcés du mariage" (2019), and "Échos de la mémoire sur les montagnes du Rif" (2020). In 2021, she began a Master's degree in Gender Studies, dedicating her thesis to homeless women. Her political approach and writings emphasize encounter, listening, and sharing, affirming her commitment to the values of fraternity and mutual enrichment through intercultural exchanges.
